Feel the change in pace as you continue along Chapel Street, bidding farewell to the sleek design of South Yarra and emerging into the treasure-trove of vintage finds, eclectic eateries and independent spirit of Prahran and Windsor. Make a beeline for Greville Street, the spiritual hub of Prahran. While less kitsch than it once was the street retains a unique vibrancy thanks to a scattering of vintage stores, an independent record shop, edgy cafes, gallery spaces and outposts of local designers. Fossick through stalls packed with retro homewares, vintage clothes and collectables at Chapel Street Bazaar. While away sunny mornings watching the world go by from very Prahran cafes, like Yellow Bird. Get some soul food at Misty’s Diner or more refined fare at Ladro Prahran. Save up and splurge on a celebratory degustation at the acclaimed Jacques Reymond. If you’re self-catering and looking for fresh produce, seafood, meat and deli items, don’t miss the Prahran Market on Commercial Road. Buy something you don’t recognise and get tips for cooking from The Essential Ingredient. Wish for year-round summer evenings from your vantage point in the beer garden cabanas from the Windsor Castle. Sop up the vodka with scrumptious sausages and dumplings at Borsch, Vodka & Tears. Keep the night going with a show or a dance at Revolver Upstairs, OneSixOne or Boutique. By tram: Number 8 (to Toorak Road), Number 72 (to Commercial/Malvern Road) or Number 6 (to High Street) from Swanston Street; or Number 78/79 to travel the length of Chapel Street (from North Richmond to Prahran/St Kilda). By train: From Flinders Street Station, Sandringham, Frankston or Pakenham/Cranbourne lines to South Yarra Station or Sandringham line to Prahran Station (about 20 minutes).
